When I learned this song while touring refugee camps in Greece in the summer of 2016 I imagined singing it here with my brilliant colleague Naif Serhan, who has recently opened a music school in the area where I gave a singing workshop and hope to so more soon. Here we are playing this beautiful Syrian love song ‘On the Waves of the Sea’ a week ago. Video by Saleem Amer

Music with Refugees in Witten, Germany with Tarik Thabet on qanun, Julia Katarina on oud and Tobias Bülow on percussion. An audience of over 200, half of them refugees, half locals, Arabic speakers among them singing “Wind, take me back to my country”.
